The government is introducing a four-year integrated BEd programme from next year onwards with an aim to improve the quality of teachers and teaching, Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar announced on Thursday while addressing principals of Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas on the second day of the two-day conference. Early last year, the government had stated that the 2-year Bachelor of Education might soon be dropped in favour of a 4-year integrated teacher training programme.
"Teaching should become a profession of choice but not a profession of left over that is why we are introducing 4-year integrated B.Ed course in the coming acedemic year" according to a statement released by the HRD ministry.
HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said students during this integrated course will save one year.
INTEGRATED B.A. - B.ED.
Creating Focused Educators for National and State Level Jobs.
The government on Thursday informed the Rajya Sabha that a new four-year integrated course for B.Ed has been formulated and will start from this session itself for which a notification has been issued. Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour, HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said students will save one year through this integrated course, the syllabus for which has been finalised and institutions desirous of introducing the course can do so soon.
Poor teacher salary, and extreme teacher-student ratios in government schools are only a few of the problems making the teaching industry the last career choice for many meritorious students.
B.A.-B.Ed. is a four-year integrated programme which aims at integrating general studies in arts and professional studies in education. It provides a wide knowledge base with emphasis on CTET/STET preparation.
7 lakh teachers have been trained till 2015 but a lot of them remain untrained. All teachers were required to have the requisite training and it is compulsory as per the RTE Act.
Accordingly, NCTE has issued guidelines for conduct of Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). As per the guidelines, the appropriate Government should conduct a TET at least once every year. The Validity Period of TET qualifying certificate for appointment will be decided by the appropriate Government subject to a maximum of seven years for all categories.
We are in the process of adding " 4 year Bachelor of Education " books to our book catalog. We will update it soon.
